BIOGRAPHY

Maria Marriott is an award-winning photographer whose work transcends the boundaries of traditional equine photography, capturing the wild majesty of America’s mustangs in a way that is both strikingly intimate and moving. With a monochromatic palette and minimalist approach, Maria strips away the distractions of the modern world to focus on the raw, untamed essence of these iconic creatures. Through her lens, the wild horses of the American West become symbols of grace, strength, and freedom, evoking a deep emotional resonance that lingers long after the viewer has left the image behind.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Maria’s love for photography took root early, as she developed her craft from a young age. She went on to earn a degree in Journalism, later honing her visual storytelling at the New York Institute of Photography. But it was her deep connection to horses that led her to the American wilderness, where she found her true muse—the wild mustangs that roam the vast landscapes of the West. Her equine portraits, honored in international competitions and featured in notable publications such as Cowboys & Indians and 65 Degrees, convey not just the beauty of the horses but the spirit of the land they inhabit.

Maria’s work is a call to preserve the wild places and creatures that so many overlook. Through her art, she invites us to see the world differently, to appreciate the wilderness and the delicate balance between human and nature. In every image, there is a sense of both myth and reality, as the horses she photographs seem to embody the very soul of the American West. It is Maria’s hope that through her photography, viewers will be inspired to protect these landscapes and the mustangs that call them home, ensuring that their beauty endures for future generations.
