Stefano Giorgi, born in Turin in 1973, is an innovative artist whose work spans painting, live performance, and multimedia art. He graduated in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Turin, and since the 1990s, he has explored the rich tradition of Chinese ink painting, mastering the expressive Xieyi style (寫意). Deeply influenced by Buddhist Chán (禪) philosophy and meditation, Giorgi has merged these practices with traditional European techniques in oil and watercolor, life drawing, and figurative art.
In his master’s atelier, Giorgi developed a distinctive personal style centered on three key elements: the brushstroke as a meditative act connected to breath and posture, the experimental use of materials beyond their traditional boundaries, and the pursuit of essential simplicity in form and subject. His creative process embraces the art of breaking rules to reveal deeper expressions of spontaneity and control.
A pioneer of immersive live painting, Giorgi designed a unique projection system in 2005 that fuses liquid colors with video, allowing him to perform dynamic, visual art in real-time. His performances are often accompanied by avant-garde musicians and explore the intersections of dance, theater, and sound.
Today, Giorgi continues to push the boundaries of art and music, working closely with experimental musicians to create improvisational soundscapes, projected visuals, and innovative performances. His studio in Turin, founded in 2011, has become a vibrant hub for underground performances and a gathering place for artists, musicians, and the public. Rooted in Eastern and Western traditions, Giorgi's work—often created in solitude amidst the mountains—reflects his enduring quest for balance between precision and freedom.
